About
Kevin McDonald is the Assistant Director of Application Hosting here at ITS, Vanderbilt University. He comes to us from about two-hundred yards away – from the MIS department. Kevin was the manager of System Administration for the MIS department for several years. One of his main accomplishments while employed at MIS was his contributions in implementing a fault tolerant web application infrastructure. Additionally, Chad Wigal was a catalyst during the implementation and deserves much of the credit. Chad was Kevin’s “right-hand-man” at MIS, and Kevin would love to have that hand back someday. Steve Bartlett is now leading the MIS System Administrators, and has started developing new web content.
Kevin has 15 years of IT experience with WebMD, FTL Systems, Vanderbilt University, and Paychex, Inc. Before his time in the IT field, Kevin served a tour in the U.S. Marine Corps as a Communications Technician (Comm Tech:2811). Kevin has four degrees, with his most recent being an MBA from TNU where he boasts a 4.0 GPA. Of course, he hasn’t found a use for any of the degrees yet – they are all based on theoretical concepts that break down in practical application. Additionally, he has several certifications: RHCE, SCNA, SCSA, DAD, SOB, and PIA.
Kevin’s hobbies include playing poker, cruising his motorcycle, and spending time with his “Brady Bunch” of a family. He hopes to pick up the habit of online gaming some day – right after his career as a body builder.
