October 2008 MAR

October 27th, 2008 by kendra.thorpe

So I’m going to do my MARS a little different this month. I will note any progress on the items listed on my “Projects and Activities” list.

Migrate Windows server to non-routed subnet –

Move Runbook to Altiris – Nothing new.

DPM 2007 Evaluation – Moved the SharePoint SQL instance back to the default SQL port (TCP/1433) on the test SQL server. I was able to successfully create a replica of the SharePoint data in DPM. We will test the following restore scenarios:

    -Item Restore

    -Site Restore

    -Web Application

    -Farm

SharePoint Rollout – Working on performance issues. Added in Reorganize Index to Maintenance Plan. I also added a stored procedure on the test farm that defragments MOSS databases. I ran it and saw a vast improvement in fragmentation on the test farm. I will add the stored procedure to the production SharePoint SQL instance and run it as well.

Upgrade VCMS – Had to rollback my change because the upgrade process was killed when my RDP session was disconnected. The database was left in a corrupted state. Since then we have tweaked the upgrade process. This time I will begin by upgrading the test VCMS server with current VCMS data. Once the upgrade is complete, the Oracle DBA will copy the newly upgraded database to the production VCMS server. Once that is done, I will install 2.5 on the production VCMS server. If necessary we can either redirect all of our clients to the test server or reinstall 2.0.2 on production and use the old database. This will minimize the outage experienced by users.
