September 2007 Monthly Activity Report

Email Oneness:

Officially I can say I spent little time this month on this project mostly collecting monetary figures for different scenarios. Currently this has been taken off my calendar as numbers are being rolled up.

Resource Management

Trying to get a handle on what everyone is doing Project wise. This started out as a small effort which has turned into a snowball. Scott Hogan has been working on the spreadsheet to consolidate the information, as well as facilitate the gathering of the information. Its interesting to see what you’re supposed to be working on, versus the operational stuff that you do.

Operations Manager 2007

The Ops. Manager server project, I worked with Roland to get it migrated to a New virtual server. This blew up, so we backed it out. I spent numerous hours getting the restored version clean again. A new VM has been provisions, scanned and moved to the .1 to try the move again.

The Cluster monitoring issue is still in a variable state. We have added it to the AD dns, which made it partially work. Was troubleshooting with Microsoft, and came to find out that there wasn’t a reverse a record for the server. Further investigation, proved that there wasn’t even a Reverse zone for the AD. Adding a Zone isn’t a large deal, but it is a change in the AD infrastructure, which means that it will have to be blessed by both teams, in the mean time I went ahead and archived the issue with Microsoft, until we are able to move in a direction. This only affects the cluster resources, not the nodes. The nodes are still monitored.

Octel Replacement

We have been moving forward pretty well with this project. We have met with Gartner, and were given some advice. We have refined our RFI, and will be sending this out by Oct 5th. This still is a voicemail replacement project, with ties to Unified Communications. Curious when UC will be more of a roll, or another phase.

SharePoint

I have been working on the team’s SharePoint site, and have helped some staff members with a Survey, interesting to see that you multiple lines in a survey question come out wrong on the survey but when you view the results it displays correctly. Spent some time researching this issue, didn’t find any answers.

Today is the last work day of the month, so I thought I would add a couple thoughts to tie everyone over for the weekend.

Have a great weekend.

Thought of the Day 09/21/2007 — On Loyalty

Posted on September 21st, 2007 in TOTD by guy.shepperd

It has been awhile since I gave a thought for the day. Some people have complained. to them I say thanks for caring enough to read, and also, get over it already! :)

Here is my thought for the day. It has many connotations, or interpretations, but I am a true believer in what Colin Powell said.

 Hope you enjoy this thought!

When we are debating an issue, loyalty means giving me your honest opinion, whether you think I’ll like it or not. Disagreement, at this stage, stimulates me. But once a decision has been made, the debate ends. From that point on, loyalty means executing the decision as if it were your own.
