“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles.

If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat.

If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

- Sun Tzu

In fond memory of Anna Nicole Smith
1967 – 2007

“I don’t drink as much as I use to could.”

“ I don’t have a boyfriend right now. I’m looking for anyone with a job that I don’t have to support.”

“I’m just gonna keep my mouth shut. I know nothing, about nothing. Oh yes.”

- Anna Nicole Smith

Famous last words……
·         Hey there’s no handles inside these car doors!
·         Gee, that’s a cute tattoo.
·         He’s probably just hibernating.
·         What does this button do?
·         Are you sure the power is off?
·         The odds of that happening have to be a million to one!
·         Pull the pin and count to what?
·         Which wire was I supposed to cut?
·         I’ve seen this done on TV.
·         These are the good kind of mushrooms.
·         It’s strong enough for both of us.
·         This doesn’t taste right.
·         I can make this light before it changes.
·         Trust me, I’ve done this before.
·         Now watch this.
·         This planet has an atmosphere just like on earth.

Murphy’s laws of combat.

  • Friendly fire – isn’t.
  • Tracers work both ways.
  • Five second fuses always burn three seconds.
  • If the enemy is within range, so are you.
  • Napalm is an area support weapon.
  • Mines are equal opportunity weapons.
  • If you are forward of your position, your artillery will fall short.
  • If your attack is going really well, it’s an ambush.
  • If you are short of everything but the enemy, you are in the combat zone.
  • Professional soldiers are predictable; the world is full of dangerous amateurs.

But the best for last…….

  • If it’s stupid but it works, it isn’t stupid.

  • Worked on the Mailgate Analysis project. The root casue of the webmetric alerts was that a ORDB database was shutdown on Dec 18th. In the process of finding this out, we uncovered other numerous errors, and opportunites for improvement. Memory & Tcp tweaks were the major ones.

  • WebMetrics Tuning.- using the web metrics tool on the Mailgate project, we found out useful information could be obtained from this monitoring tool. I have been tweaking the timouts to make this a more useful tool in the future.

  • Unsecured MailBE (ITS-Exchbe01) – Security found this to be an event that you could get directly to the backend server using OWA without SSL. I worked with Taj, Cindi and Rich to close this off. Made changed to the Backend so that only Exchange Servers or clients could talk to it.

  • DST information- Have been working on figuring out the proper steps to correctly apply the DST patches to the Exchange servers, and Exchange Databases.

  • Analysis and Rebuild of Mailbe17 – rebuilt Mailbe17. Re-organized the Message stores so that there were 2 Storage groups and 2 messages stores.

  • Law Student Migration – Migrated 600 students to Mailbe16. this moved all Law School students to exchange.

  • ITS-Exchbe01 retirement – working on coordinating the retirement of ITS-Exchbe01 and Its-Exchfe01 and IMO admin group. Migrations are scheduled for the last two weeks in February.
