We did perform a very exhausting comparison with Infoblox and VitalQIP.

For pure DNS functionality, I cannot say anything bad about Infoblox. They do the job incredibly well and I love the HA capabilities of their appliances. Unfortunately, we needed a robust IPAM/DHCP solution as well. It was obvious through the testing that Infoblox was a DNS company first with IPAM tacked on for good measure. Then again, you can say that it is also obvious that BT INS is IPAM first with DNS tacked on...

Bluecat never really entered into the picture and VitalQIP did their best to price themselves out of the picture as quickly as they could.

On a pure DNS functionality, I cannot say that BT INS is better or worse than Infoblox. They both perform the job very well. Each has their pro's and con's and it all comes down to what you want to/need/to/can live with.

Did you perform a competitive analysis between BT INS and say Bluecat or Infoblox?

You're not the only one with a forever-long DNS/DHCP project. I keep watching your blog for clues.

GUI Limitations as follows:

1. Cut and paste IP's from one subnet to another.
2. Export Utility within the GUI.
3. Ability to search based on IPAM data.
4. Global sort does not provide the information needed in its output to identify records we are searching to find (The IPAM data for each IP is not displayed).
5. Sorting of web pages on columns is not supported.

Can you expand a bit on what you mean by "GUI limitations" of the Infoblox device?

You get to test patches, you lucky bastage.

And you\\\'ve having the same slapd problem I\\\'m having here. The only thing I\\\'ve found that I don\\\'t THINK we have applied yet is this: http://sunsolve.sun.com/search/document.do?assetkey=urn:cds:docid:1-21-122476-01-1

Course we\\\'re also running on RHEL4, which I\\\'m not sure you\\\'re running on.
