Post at Snacks4theBrain! about November Meeting

Monday, December 8th, 2008

Welcome to Episode 76, reporting out the November meeting of the Vanderbilt Web Spiders. There’s so much going on at Vanderbilt that I wonder if we’ll ever run out of topics for S4theB? Could that ever happen? I doubt it, Monty!

Google shows Vanderbilt its newest apps

Thursday, September 18th, 2008

Google brought its University Bus Tour (a bio-fuel bus) to campus Sept. 18 to demonstrate Google Apps for education, meet students, offer giveaways and more. Students had an opportunity to talk with Googlers about what’s on their minds including using Google products at school and learning some tips and tricks.

Check out this video of the Google Apps presentation at the Commons:

Multimedia facilities on campus

Friday, September 12th, 2008

Question:

The Stevenson Science and Engineering Library is considering the
creation of a multimedia workroom in the library. This workroom would
support various kinds of video, audio and design authoring and editing
capabilities and would be Apple based. What other facilities for
faculty, staff and students are available on campus for this sort of
thing? I know there are some but I thought I would poll your collective
knowledge. We’re especially interested in those that are available to
students. Thanks.

Answers:

  • The Learning Resource Center (2-4855) is available for use by all A&S faculty, staff and students. Most of their equipment and software is Apple based.

  • ITS has a “Podcasting Studio” which is basically modest office space with good lighting and drapery, acoustic tile, pro-quality mics and a nicely tricked out PC (there is also a Mac but I didn’t help spec that out so I don’t know what’s on it but I am sure it’s full of juicy Apple multimedia goodness) that is open to all – well, all willing to make the trek to the Hill Center, anyway.  Kathryn Foote (Matt’s AA) handles reservations for the space.

Information on the Server Migration

Monday, April 23rd, 2007

Kate Gilbreath has been so kind as to put up a site with information about the migration from the old hardware to the new for the main campus web-server (helios.vanderbilt.edu and www.vanderbilt.edu).

The link is Web Server Migration

Thank you Kate.
