Friday, April 24th, 2009Post at Snacks4theBrain! about November Meeting
Monday, December 8th, 2008Welcome to Episode 76, reporting out the November meeting of the Vanderbilt Web Spiders. There’s so much going on at Vanderbilt that I wonder if we’ll ever run out of topics for S4theB? Could that ever happen? I doubt it, Monty!

Podcasts from Sept. 26 Meeting
Tuesday, September 30th, 2008Below are files from most of the Sept. 26 Web Spiders meeting. Unfortunately – it appears our recorder ran out of memory midway through the Public Affairs update, before Jim Parker’s review of the search for a new search engine for the university. Hopefully more on that next time.
Suellen Stringer-Hye provided an overview of DiscoverLibrary, the library’s new search tool.
Listen.
Ronee Francis provided a review of DiscoverArchive, which is the library’s repository for electronic content being produced across the university.
Listen.
Melanie Moran talked briefly about events planned in October to raise awareness and provide training on a variety of digital tools, the new myVU site, and her experience using a blog recently as a communication tool in a tragedy.
Listen (gets cut off at end).

Student, Master of Science in Nursing (Nursing Informatics)
* Vanderbilt has a contract with Sitemason to host the Sitemason CMS on Vanderbilt servers. It is freely available to use for any Vanderbilt departments. While many people across the university use the Sitemason Custom Form, the biggest users of the CMS are News and Public Affairs and the College of Arts and Science. MyVU, VUCast, and the university calendar are all driven by Sitemason. Jason Coles and Jonathan Dees are the Web Team developers for VUMC and designed Sitebuilder. Tim Moses, co-owner, built SiteMason from scratch — before solutions like Drupal were around.
* Centre Source does Drupal design. CentreSource in Nashville has some ‘Drupal-ers’ on staff - http://www.centresource.com/
* The School of Medicine is actively developing sites in Drupal, group of programmers from all over campus.
* The sustainability group …used a company called MMA Creative (www.mmacreative.com ) to create the SustainVU (www.vanderbilt.edu/sustainvu ) web site, and though at the time we did not request content management, I think they are planning to look into that in the near future. MMA Creative has been good to work with, and their web site indicates that they can provide help with content management services.
* Digital Dog developed the content management system on www.vanderiltchildrens.com . Larry Blankenship is their owner. They do a lot of work for Vanderbilt.
* Judy’s Site-Shack is headed full-steam into Drupal.
