Project Update:

Vuspace 3 project

We’ve eliminated 2 of the solution classes and we are down to either a Microsoft Windows cluster solution or a content management system.  Currently we are evaluating Windows Cluster, Xythos, and Documentum as possible solutions for the project.  I have been busy throughout the month creating engineering diagrams for the various solutions and researching features that will be needed for our offering.

Day to day:

  • I upgraded the BlueArc this month.  The first round of updates involved having StorageTek on site to upgrade all of the storage firmware on the disk sub systems.  After which I upgraded the management console code and then upgraded the firmware on the NAS head itself.  This upgrade was necessary to resolve a bug in the current firmware and to resolve a firmware revision issue between our ESM modules.  The upgrade corrected all of these issues and will hopefully give us some other benefits as well.
  • With the addition of the CX3-80 to our environment I updated the Storage Diagram to include all of the latest additions to our environment.  The next round of updates will occur after our backup server is replaced with a Linux machine.
  • With the use of Sharepoint Designer I created two web pages for requesting storage from the Storage team.  One is for server storage, the other is for NAS attached storage.  Both of these pages can be accessed via the Apphosting webpage under Admin Tools.  The form creates a Magic Ticket that is assigned to the Storage team.
  • I completed an upgrade of Replication Manager/SE in our test environment.  The upgrade was successful and I have scheduled an upgrade of our production systems for two weeks from now.  This upgrade will enable to us to update our Clariion Storage arrays to FLARE code 24.  Our new CX3-80 was shipped to us with FLARE 24 and we would like to upgrade our existing arrays to the same firmware level so that we can group them all in one logical domain.
