March Activity Report
3 04 2007- We began the process of establishing a work flow process through the Storage team. its-storage has been created by Julie in Magic for routing of Storage related work. Three sub-categories were added: SAN, NAS, and storage. Using this scheme we should be able to better track changes in the storage environment requested by external users.
- I worked with John McCammon to research upgrade costs to the BlueArc. One of our researchers is interested in housing around 30-50 TB of their environment on our BlueArc. Initial discussions with BlueArc are showing costs that may be prohibitive.
- Evan and I added a couple new standard changes to our PASC list. We continue to identify new changes that need to be approved for our list.
- I participated in planning for our SAN fabric upgrade and produced a migration plan document describing the process for splitting our fabric across two directors. This will give us physical redundancy and port capacity that we do not currently have. The main goal being the ability to support Owen and Law in our environment.
- This month has also been plagued by RMSE issues. RMSE replicates the mail store using the Clariion on the back end. We have had continuous failures for various reasons. Both Evan and I have engaged EMC in dealing with this issue. We have had short term success with various repairs they have given us, as to the end of last month no root cause had been identified.
- Finally, I have participated in discussions for our upcoming backup upgrade. We are inching our way toward execution of the migration. After our SAN upgrade and Clariion storage upgrades we’ll be engaging professional services to upgrade our backup server to Legato 7.3 and introducing a new storage node to the environment to deal with growing bandwidth requirements. In addition to these upgrades we have purchased an NDMP license which will facilitate backing up the Celerra.
